What Is Sciton JOULE? Several Treatments, One Precise System
The Sciton JOULE is a modular laser and light platform designed and built by Sciton in Palo Alto, California. Rather than a single-purpose device, it holds multiple treatment modules in one system. That lets your provider choose the right wavelength and intensity for each concern, and combine treatments in the same visit when it makes sense.
In practice, that means a quick, no-downtime glow treatment and a deeper resurfacing treatment can come from the same system, each set specifically for your skin. Every plan starts with a consultation so we can match the treatment to your skin type, your goals and how much downtime you can realistically take.
Different Wavelengths Reach Different Concerns
Each JOULE treatment works at its own wavelength. Shorter wavelengths of light target pigment and redness. Longer infrared wavelengths are absorbed by water in the skin, which is how fractional and resurfacing lasers smooth texture and stimulate collagen.

Your Sciton JOULE Treatment, Start to Finish
- We review your skin, health history and goals, then recommend the treatment or combination that fits, including expected downtime.
- Avoid tanning and extended sun exposure beforehand and follow any instructions about pausing products like retinoids. Numbing cream may be applied for fractional treatments.
- Most sessions take 15 to 60 minutes depending on the treatment and area. Many patients describe a warm, quick snapping feeling, and built-in cooling keeps you comfortable.
- Recovery & results. Expect anything from mild pinkness to several days of peeling, depending on the treatment. Results build over the following weeks. Daily SPF protects your investment.

Is Sciton JOULE a laser?
It’s a platform that holds both lasers and BroadBand Light (BBL), a powerful form of intense pulsed light. Your provider selects the module and settings that fit your concern, which is why one system can treat everything from brown spots to wrinkles to unwanted hair.
Does it hurt?
Most patients find treatments very tolerable. BBL and hair reduction feel like a warm snap, and the system has built-in cooling. For fractional and resurfacing treatments, we apply numbing cream beforehand to keep you comfortable.
How much downtime should I plan for?
It depends on the treatment. BBL and Forever Bare BBL have little to no downtime. MOXI typically means one to three days of pinkness and light roughness. HALO and erbium resurfacing can involve several days to about a week of redness and peeling.
Is it safe for my skin tone?
There are JOULE options for many skin types. MOXI is suitable for all skin types, while BBL settings depend on your skin tone and recent sun exposure. Your provider will recommend the safest, most effective option for you at your consultation.
How many treatments will I need?
Some concerns improve after one session, while others respond best to a short series. BBL is often done in one to three sessions, MOXI in a series of three to four, and hair reduction over several sessions spaced weeks apart. Maintenance treatments help keep results going.
When will I see results?
After BBL, brown spots usually darken and flake away within one to two weeks. Fractional and resurfacing results show over two to six weeks and continue to improve for months as new collagen forms.
When is the best time of year for laser treatments?
Fall and winter are popular because there’s less sun exposure during healing. MOXI can be done year-round. Whatever the season, daily sunscreen is essential before and after treatment.

Can I combine JOULE with other treatments?
