Enjoy a Chemical Peel to Get Rid of Signs of Holiday Stress

Isn’t it ironic that the most wonderful time of the year is also the most stressful? And this stress can begin to appear on our faces. From stress-related acne to dark circles around the eyes to wrinkles and fine lines, all of these can appear during the holiday season. Luckily, we can get rid of these signs of stress with a chemical peel. Here’s how a chemical peel can help you achieve the perfect look just in time for the holidays.

What to Know About Chemical Peels

What Is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure that relies on an acid solution applied to the face to restore and renew the skin. After a chemical peel, the skin will look brighter, have fewer wrinkles and fine lines, have a reduced appearance of acne scars, and look simply rejuvenated.

The best results come from going to a dermatologist and getting the procedure done in-office. In-office chemical peel procedures offer varying levels of strength and intensity depending on the severity of the skin conditions that will ensure more drastic results.

How Does it Work?

Chemical peels sound great, but you’re probably wondering just how do they work?

A chemical peel appointment will begin with the cleansing of your face. With a simple cleansing solution, your aesthetician will thoroughly clean your face to get rid of dirt, grime, and oil buildup.

Once the face is clean, it’s time for the application of the chemical solution. As we mentioned, these solutions have various degrees of strength, but they typically contain a mixture of any of the following acids; glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, or carbolic acid.

The solution essentially creates small injuries on the skin. While it isn’t considered painful, most people experience a light burning or stinging sensation. These “micro-injuries” promote the production of collagen.Collagen is one of the main building blocks of protein and it is present everywhere in our bodies, most especially the skin. One of the roles of collagen is to respond to injuries. Anytime you are injured, your body triggers an immediate release of collagen to the injured area. Collagen storms the wound to jumpstart regeneration.

After the solution is applied and wiped away, the natural process of collagen overload begins. Your aesthetician may apply a cool compress if the burning sensation becomes too much to bear. They’ll wrap up by applying a moisturizer and sunscreen.

Many people can immediately see results after the procedure. The skin will seem brighter and smoother. However, the major results will appear over the course of the next few days. Within a day or two, your skin will begin to peel. It’s similar to what you experience with a sunburn. You will most likely experience redness, possible swelling, and scaling. For deeper chemical peels, the results will be more severe. Speak with your dermatologist to find out what to expect.

Nonetheless, with a successful procedure, in about a week, the collagen production would have created a new layer of regenerated skin. This new skin is without scarring, has little to no wrinkles, no acne, and of course no dirt/oil buildup.

These positive results make chemical peels the perfect solution to getting rid of signs of stress. While a chemical peel can’t make the holiday season any less crazy, it can give you the ability to handle the madness with confidence.
