Getting Rid of Wrinkles

What better way to turn back the hands of time than getting rid of wrinkles? Whether they are smile lines or crow’s feet, there are a few sure-fire ways to make them disappear.

  • Botox

We know, we know, Botox isn’t most people’s first choice, but the truth is, Botox gets a bad rap. The fact of the matter is, this cosmetic procedure is probably the most effective way to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. When administered properly and by a certified dermatologist, Botox injections temporarily paralyzes the injected muscles. As a result, the surrounding tissue completely relaxes keeping it from being able to contract. It is this contraction of the tissue that creates wrinkles. Botox is temporary, however, but it’s effective enough to make your Father’s Day pictures look amazing.

  • Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are what some consider to be a natural alternative to Botox. Also administered via injection, dermal fillers inject a hyaluronic acid compound into various areas to “fill” them out and naturally cause wrinkles to disappear. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in our systems. It is responsible for lubricating our joints, eyes, and various other parts of the body. What makes dermal fillers great is that the effects can last up to two years and results can be seen immediately. There may be slight swelling for a day or two, so be sure to go in for treatment a few days prior to Father’s Day.

  • Ultrasound Therapy

Want a more modern solution to getting rid of wrinkles? Ultrasound therapy may be what you need. This is an in-office procedure in which ultrasound waves penetrate deep into your skin creating kinetic energy (aka heat) that affects the deep tissue. The tissue begins to scar, prompting collagen (the natural substance in our bodies that give us that plump and youthful look) to flood the area and begin the healing process. The new and improved tissue that is created eventually comes to the surface of your skin getting rid of the old, wrinkly skin in the process.

Getting Rid of Dark Spots

Even without wrinkles, pesky dark spots can really add on the years. While there are many ways to get rid of these dark spots, there’s only one way that’ll clear them up in enough time for Daddy’s Day.

  • Light Therapy

Dark spots are simply pigmentation cells misbehaving, which means if you can somehow manipulate those cells, you can get the results you want. This is exactly what light therapy does. Light emitted at a certain wavelength is absorbed by the misbehaving pigmentation cells. Once absorbed, this light turns into kinetic energy and ruptures the cells. When the pigmentation cells rupture, the affected skin begins to lose its dark color and soon blends in with the rest of the skin. The full effects of light therapy can be seen anywhere between a few days and two weeks, so we recommend receiving treatment several weeks prior to Father’s Day.

Getting Rid of Acne

No matter how old you are, acne outbreaks always seem to pop up at the worst time. So if you’re dealing with acne around your big day, there are a few ways to clear it up.

  • Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are a very popular way to treat acne. Whether you do it at home or in-office, this procedure requires a chemical solution to be applied to the face. Once applied, the solution will begin to blister the skin, eventually causing the top layer to peel. As the skin peels away, it leaves behind a fresh new layer of smooth and acne-free skin. Even though it is painless, this technique may cause redness and swelling that will fade in about a month. Your new skin will begin to appear after two weeks of treatment, so make sure you give yourself more than enough time for treatment and healing.

  • Steroid Injections

This is most definitely a quick-fix solution. Steroid injections are usually a go-to treatment option for severe cysts and painful bumps. Injected directly into the pimple, steroid injections cause the cyst to completely flatten and disappear in a couple of days. It’s side effects, however, are something to think about. Severe redness, thinning of the skin, and visible blood vessels are just a few side effects that you may experience. If steroid injections are right for you, be sure to begin treatment weeks, if not months, before Father’s Day.

  • Light Therapy

Yes, light therapy can also help get rid of acne. Emitting light at a different wavelength than that of dark spot correcting, light therapy for acne targets the bacteria beneath the skin that causes pimples. This energy zaps away the bacteria and promotes healing thus reversing the damaging effects of acne outbreaks. This is said to be one of the most effective acne reducing treatments available, yet it can take several weeks before your acne disappears so be sure to start treatment immediately.

Restoring Your Youthful Look

If you’re looking for an overall healthy skin treatment option, there’s one technique that just might restore your youthful look in a single day.

  • Microneedling

Microneedling is the easiest way to get a whole new layer of skin. Also called Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), microneedling is a procedure in which the face is continually pin pricked by tiny needles causing micro-injury. As the face is covered with tiny wounds, the production of collagen goes into overdrive and rushes to heal the face thus producing a new layer of skin that is firmer, smoother, and even-toned. Many patients have reported seeing great results immediately, which makes it absolutely perfect for Father’s Day. So if you’re pressed for time but want great results, this one might be for you.

Each of these cosmetic treatments can provide you with the skin you want for Father’s Day and our experts at The Dermatology Group will happily provide you with the best resources, advice, and treatment options you need.
